<strong>Brian</strong>

Aboslutely. I think what makes Jesus' baptism so difficult is that there are so many Old Testament threads coming together in the event that we get stuck on trying to trace one all the way back to the exclusion of others. My cop out answer is that "it was to fulfill the Old Testament." "Which part?" "yes."

This is another great paradigm for understanding Jesus' baptism. I do find 'CDonahue' comment above as being of interest as well. I guess the real question is not so much the historical event, but the many theological paradigms that has been gleaned from that event. All can be true to some extent.

Did you ever consider that Jesus' baptism was the placement of the worlds sins on him? Just like in the Old Testament the High Priest, Aaron had to place his hands on the head of the sacrifice. That was so the sins could be transferred to the animal. John the Baptist was a decendant of Aaron. So if you thought of it like that, all our sins were placed on him, he was judged for them on the cross and then was ressurected by the Holy Spirit. That would account for the witness of the water, blood, and The Spirit. That was God's testimony.
