To think, I might have been close to that thing when I spent some time in Asia. The Horror!

Huntsmans are just bad dudes in general. We don’t need new ones popping up. I blame the fall. There is nothing Edenic about that thing.

Nonetheless, this picture ought to really disturb you. It is a 30 cm spider just discovered in Asia.

And you’re definitely right about the little ones in the States. In my home state we have black widows and brown recluses… both nasty little things. Apparently the spider in the picture is a “golden orb weaver” which has a supporting cast of your regular, every day garden spider. Not dangerous at all… unless you’re a bird apparently.

As I was walking down an alley-way last night to get to my car, I kept trying to picture what it would be like to see that spider hanging from one of the trees. Honestly, I probably would have had to go in the other direction around the block so I couldn’t be eaten along with the bird

My family on my father’s side comes from up Cairns way. It’s a beautiful place – rainforests, jungles, white sandy beaches, etc. – but there’re some fantastic dangers as well. Like in ‘Stinger season’, when the box jelly fish and other poisonous jelly fish are around, you’re not allowed to swim unless you’re wearing what basically amounts to a full-body stocking. And recently they had to impound one of the largest crocodiles ever found, because on x-ray they discovered a complete human skeleton (but couldn’t just kill the thing, because it was such an anomaly).

But then, we don’t have bears, wolves, or any of your American carnivorous creatures. So we traded up on the scaly and creepy.

Dude…that is very frightening. Oh my gosh. Now I can’t think about anything else…
