Brian, your review on the NLT Study Bible was one of the more thorough reads of a Study Bible that I have come across in some time, well done.
I had been waiting impatiently for the new updated HCSB and figured B&H was holding off the official publication due later this year, hopefully because of a Study Bible in the works. That said, your review led me to the bookstore, was very impressed, and I purchased a NLTSB. Thanks !

Great review! I look forward to buying one in the near future. The only concerns I had reading the Genesis sampler were 1) the misleading statement that the Israelites were in Egypt for 400 years, when in fact they were there for 430 years (cf. Exodus 12:40, 41), and 2) the lack of explanatory notes on the creation narrative of Genesis 1.

I was also surprised when I visited the publisher's website, where they have posted a Study Bible Comparison (NLT Study, NIV Study, NIV Archaeological, MacArthur Study Bible). The sample text that was selected was Genesis 22:1-2, where Abraham offers up his son Isaac. While I obviously prefer the NLT text, MacArthur's explanation was much more concise, clear and meaningful than any of the other notes. I think the publishers should have picked a different example in this case.

Thanks for your reply, I believe both NLT & ESV study bibles are the added treasure to the Chhristendom.

Hey Paul,

Wow, all the way from Singapore eh? Sometimes I forget that this little blog goes much further than my screen. I would love to review the upcoming ESV Study Bible- but as far as I know, Crossway isn't sending me a copy. If they would be willing to send me a copy, then I would love to review it. As it is with bills, books, and tuition, I don't think I'll be able to pick it up soon enough to get a review out.
